Finger Lickin’ Good!

I was on my way to work today at about two in the afternoon. There was a TON of traffic. I was thinking to myself — okay I was talking to myself in the car as per usual — where are all these people coming from and going to? Don’t they have jobs? Then I realized … 100,000 people a month are losing jobs, so it’s likely they DON’T have jobs and they’re just in my way; being annoying. Mystery solved!

Real quick on the book front. I mentioned I picked up Evanovich’s 15th book in the ‘By the Number’s series … Finger Lickin’ Fifteen. So far it’s as fabu as all the previous books! The characters are so fun and well written. If you haven’t picked up any of these books, I highly recommend them, they’re funny and bright!

Okay … onto the TV front. Last night I watched ‘The Closer’ and as usual it was completely awesome. I just adore Kyra Sedgwick … she absolutely rocks as Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson. Also on TNT I watch ‘Raising The Bar’ and the storyline was really interesting. The prosecuters office was prosecuting a man for pedophelia, who took an innocent photo of his kid in the bathtub. (I know for a FACT my parents have a ton of photos of me in the tub) He put the photo up on his personal website and the photo was stolen by a porn site who was charging people to see it. Case ended in a hung jury and the prosecuter is out for blood and is planning on retrying the case. It was a pretty sad ending to a fantastic episode.

True Blood is getting better and better. The storyline this season is really prime. What is this creature that’s attacking people? Where is Merlotte running off to (away from)? I’m looking forward to finding out about Marianne and Daphne as well and what their supernatural deals are.

Army Wives has been one of my favorite shows since it’s inception. Each episode — and I’ve said this before — makes me laugh and weep a bit. Even if you don’t have any family or acquaintances in the army … it’s worth a look-see!

Harper’s Island only has 2 more episodes left, and we were given a little bit of a twist. It seems as though the killer, Wakefield, has a local accomplice. It looks as though that might be Jimmy. (why oh WHY hotty hottie Jimmy?) Dum dum dum dum … duuummmm! Can’t wait for the next episode. I really wish someone would find that cute little Maltese dog that Lucy lost while she was getting incinerated in the pit. Poor little doggy.

Now for those of you interested in the future of our world, there’s an interesting series on the History channel called ‘Life After People’ and it makes inferences about what will happen when every person on the planet is gone. You know … when we’ve all packed up; headed out to the stars because the machines started killing us all and we’re now in search of a new wonderful world? This series is a spinoff of the original Life After People documentary film (which was phenomenal IMHO).

And the funny:

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.
‘Not a chance,’ says the husband, ‘It is 3:00 in the morning!’
He slams the door and returns to bed.
‘Who was that?’ asked his wife.
‘Just some drunk guy asking for a push,’ he answers.
‘Did you help him?’ she asks.
‘No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there!’
‘Well, you have a short memory,’ says his wife. ‘Can’t you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!’
The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.
He calls out into the dark, ‘Hello, are you still there?’
‘Yes,’ comes back the answer.
‘Do you still need a push?’ calls out the husband.
‘Yes, please!’ comes the reply from the dark.
‘Where are you?’ asks the husband.
‘Over here on the swing,’ replied the drunk.

ஜ~§Quote of the Day§~ஜ

A government is the most dangerous threat to man’s rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims.
Ayn Rand

ஜ~§The Question Of The Day§~ஜ

What’s your favorite thing to show out-of-town guests when they come to visit?

ஜ~§The Word Of The Day§~ஜ

Rhubarb

PRONUNCIATION:
(ROO-bahrb)

MEANING:
noun: A heated dispute; brawl.

ETYMOLOGY:
The origin of the plant name rhubarb is from Greek rha (perhaps from Rha, an ancient name of the river Volga on whose bank rhubarb was grown) + barbaros (foreign), but why the word developed this slang sense is unknown. We do know that this usage was popularized in baseball. The Oxford English Dictionary has the first citation from 1943:
“Mr ‘Red’ Barber,.. who has been announcing the games of the Brooklyn Dodgers, has used the term ‘rhubarb’ to describe an argument, or a mix-up, on the field of play.” (NY Herald Tribune)
It’s unconfirmed whether the word has any connection with hey rube, the term for a circus brawl, or its theatrical use: when the noise of background conversation is to be simulated, a group of actors is asked to repeat the word rhubarb.

USAGE:
“People should get their domestic rhubarbs, verbal fisticuffs, and emotional jugular-snatching completely out of the way before they show up for a house tour.”

Lime-Crab Soup

(no image as blogger is wonky with internal errors)

Ingredients:
4 limes, zested and juiced
3 cups fresh corn, cut from about 6 cobs
1/2 chipotle chile in adobo sauce, seeded, plus 1 tablespoon adobo sauce
4 cups reduced-sodium nonfat chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
1/2 pound cooked crabmeat
1 avocado, pitted and diced
1/4 cup packed chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 teaspoon crushed cumin seeds
4 ounces tortilla chips or strips (optional)

Preparation:
Reserve 1 tablespoon lime juice. Blend remaining lime juice, zest, corn kernels, chile, adobo sauce, broth and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a blender until smooth. Divide soup among 4 bowls. Toss crabmeat, avocado, cilantro, cumin seeds, reserved lime juice and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt in a bowl. Sprinkle soup with crab mixture and serve with tortilla chips, if desired.

This is another no-cook recipe for the sweltering summer (as you can get the crabmeat pre-cooked at your fish counter)! YAY!

It’s likely there will not be another post from me until Sunday … so I wish you all a Happy Fourth of July!!!

Brightest Blessings,
~Surry~

True Blood is my favorite show right now. I used to watch The Closer, but my Tivo kept messing it up. But now that I've switched to another DVR, I've got to remember to record it.

Okay that soup sounds YUM! I remember being in L.A. once, sooo annoyed at the traffic when I started asking people to roll down their window and I was like, "seriously, where are you going, what are YOU doing, it's 2pm, really????" Yay to not being shot.

My two cents about True Blood…I think Maryann is the Maenad and I think when she vibrates she turns into that thing in the woods that attacked Sookie. Weird, I know, but that's what I'm thinkin'. And I'm beyond angry that we aren't getting new episodes this week! Ugh! I'm totally loving Season 2!!!
